The new section of pipeline will cross six townships in Monroe County (Bedford, Ida, LaSalle, Raisinville, Frenchtown and Ash) and enter southern Wayne County.
The new 24-inch pipeline will parallel the existing MPL right of way to the extent practical. However, in some cases, we are recommending re-routes to protect or maintain safe distances from environmentally sensitive areas, culturally sensitive areas, or homes and other structures that have been built near our existing pipeline route since it was originally constructed in 1960. Overall, the new pipeline will follow existing utility corridors for approximately 63 percent of the route.
In June 2007, the Michigan Public Service Commission authorized MPL to build and operate the new section of pipeline. Marathon land agents are currently working with individual property owners in Monroe and Wayne counties to acquire the necessary right-of-way easements for the new section of pipeline.
