Marathon Awards Scholarships for Technical Training
Marathon Petroleum Company LP has awarded seven Detroit residents scholarships to pursue certificates in process technology at Henry Ford Community College (HFCC). The recipients are: Wilton Cain, Becay Kante, Perry Myles, Clark Odister, Jerome Stevenson, Marvin Lippett and Terrill Wade.
The winners represent the 2010 class of recipients of the scholarships Marathon established to help increase employment opportunities for Detroit residents in knowledge-based, process-oriented manufacturing careers, such as those needed at petroleum refineries. The first class of Marathon scholarship recipients was selected and began classes at HFCC in fall 2009.
Marathon set up the scholarship fund as part of an agreement with the city of Detroit to help increase training opportunities for Detroit residents. The company agreed to provide scholarships for up to 10 Detroit residents to participate in the process technology program annually for 10 years.
