
May 15, 2008 – Marathon Petroleum Company LLC is hosting a construction trades opportunity event from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 22 at the Cobo Center Portside Room in downtown Detroit.
The one-day event is to provide information on construction trade job opportunities for skilled construction tradespersons and those interested in learning about apprenticeships in the trades connected to Marathon’s Detroit refinery expansion.
Fifteen local construction trade unions will be present to discuss jobs and apprenticeships related to the refinery expansion and other large construction projects in Detroit.

Who’s hosting the event?
Marathon, Detroit Workforce Development Department (DWDD) and the Michigan Building and Construction Trades Council are partnering to identify skilled construction workers and potential apprentices in Detroit for the Marathon construction project.

Yes, a number of local construction trade and labor unions will be represented.
Why is this event taking place?
Marathon, DWDD and the building trades unions are working together to develop a pool of qualified Detroit applicants for skilled construction tradespersons and apprenticeships for projects beyond the refinery expansion as well
What if I need additional training or education to be qualified for a position?
Representatives from area vocational schools including, Focus: Hope, Randolph Career Technical Center and Career Works, Inc., will be present to meet prospective applicants who may need to acquire additional education in order to be considered for the Marathon project and other construction projects in Detroit.
Will information regarding fulltime refinery positions be available?
No. The expansion, once completed in the fourth quarter of 2010, will also create 135 regular fulltime jobs at the refinery. Recruitment for those positions will be held at a later date.
