Marathon is the nation’s fifth largest refiner with 1,016,000 bpd capacity in its seven-refinery system, which includes Michigan’s only refinery at Detroit. Founded in 1887 and based in Findlay, Ohio, Marathon’s roots reach into the early years of the oil industry.

Award Winning Results
Marathon’s Detroit refinery received the Energy Star Award for 2007 and 2008 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for reducing energy usage at the facility and protecting the environment through energy efficiency.

Marathon earned the 2006 North American Refining & Energy Company of the Year award from Hart Energy Publishing for its excellence and dedication to:

In 2007, Marathon received Southwest Detroit Environmental Vision’s Community Builder Award for demonstrating consistent involvement with and support for community improvement efforts. Marathon was chosen specifically for the multi-year support it has given for neighborhood cleanup events during the Motor City Makeover and Rouge Rescue Days, and for the company’s involvement in installation of playground equipment at Mark Twain Elementary School. In addition, the award recognized Marathon’s initiative to provide a venue for ongoing dialogue with the community by establishing its Community Advisory Panel.
