How is the route being determined?
From the beginning, our primary goal in selecting a route is to balance and minimize environmental, safety and land-use concerns. That is why we want to follow the existing pipeline route to the extent possible. In some cases, re-routes are recommended to protect or maintain safe distances from environmentally sensitive areas, culturally sensitive areas, or homes or other structures that have been built near our pipeline route since it was originally constructed in 1960. We have conducted extensive surveys of the route to aid in this process.

Are more detailed maps of the proposed pipeline route available to the public?
We are restricted by the Department of Homeland Security on level of detail that we can provide on the exact location of critical infrastructure, such as crude oil pipelines.
